Robbed hit of the week 3/16/20: The Goo Goo Dolls' "Naked"...

"Naked" - Goo Goo Dolls
from the album A Boy Named Goo (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: ineligible to chart
Billboard Hot 100 Airplay peak: #47

This week's "robbed hit" comes from the rock band Goo Goo Dolls, who went from being brash and loud punkers to total mainstream suits with their album A Boy Named Goo, which rewarded them with a top-5 pop hit in "Name" in the beginning of 1996. Their follow-up single would be the midtempo rocker "Naked". Written by lead singer Johnny Rzeznik and bassist Robby Takac, the song straddled the line between agressive alt-rock and crunchy midwest guitar pop...

Since "Naked" wasn't released as a physical commercial single to "goose" sales of the album, nevertheless the song almost made it to the pop airplay top-40 in March of 1996. It did much better on rock radio, reaching both the Mainstream (#8) and Alternative (#9) rock radio chart in Billboard magazine. Internationally, the single also stalled right under the top-40 in Canada at #42.
