Songoftheday 12/14/13 - It seems like only yesterday I didn't have a clue, I stood alone not knowing where to turn...

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - "Understanding"
from the album Teachers (Original Soundtrack) (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: 17 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's Song of the Day is by Detroit-area rocker Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, whose 1982 album The Distance spun off three top-40 hits with the #2 cover of Rodney Crowell's "Shame On The Moon", "Even Now", and "Roll Me Away". In the time between albums Seger wrote and recorded a track for the soundtrack of the high school dramedy film Teachers with Nick Nolte and Jobeth Williams, and the song became the second single released from the record after .38 Specials' "Teacher Teacher"...

"Understanding" became Bob's eleventh top-20 pop single in January of 1985, while reaching the top ten on both the rock (#5) and adult-contemporary (#7) formats. It was also a moderate hit in Canada, peaking at #38.

Up tomorrow: One of my yearbook quote sources, now regarded my myself as one of the most treacly of the "power ballads" by a former jazz-rock legend of a group.
