Pop Sweep: January 4, 2014...


I'm ready to kick off today's "chart sweeps" sampling the songs making the various singles charts in Billboard magazine, and as always I'll start with the pop side of things...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, Eminem and Rihanna spend a third week at #1 with "The Monster"...

The top entry on the chart this week belongs to Beyonce', who comes in at #12 with a track from her self-titled "surprise" album, "Drunk In Love", featuring husband Jay-Z. It's one of three songs from the previously exclusive to iTunes set to rack enough sales/airplay/streaming points individually to make the chart...

The Voice crowned a new winner on the 16th, and Tessanne Chin, from Adam Levine's team, arrives on the Hot 100 with two tracks. First at #51 is her cover of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing"...


Country rocker Brantley Gilbert enters at #68 with "Bottoms Up", the first single from his upcoming third album, Just As I Am. It's his fourth overall to make the Hot 100; previously he took "You Don't Know Her Like I Do" to #49 in 2011...


The second song from Beyonce to debut is the one being promoted to pop stations, "XO" at #66...


Tessanne Chin teams up with her Voice coach Adam Levine at #76 for a version of the Beatles classic "Let It Be"....


Jason Derulo is in at #89 with the third American single from his Tattoos EP, "Talk Dirty" featuring 2 Chainz. This song has already topped the singles charts in Australia, Germany, and Britain. The first single from the set, "The Other Side", went to #18 earlier this year..


Newcomer Ty Dolla Sign debuts at #97 with his first hit, "Paranoid" featuring rapper B.o.B....


The third track from the BEYONCE album to make the chart is "Mine" featuring Drake at #99...


The last entry on the Hot 100 at #100 is country singer Dierks Bentley with "I Hold On", the second single from his upcoming Riser album. He's had two of his songs make the top-40 on this chart, with "5-1-5-0" reaching #33 in 2012...


...and now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, the Aforementioned "Monster" spends a third week at #1...

The fifth single from Bruno Mars' Grammy-nominated album Unorthodox Jukebox, "Young Girls", leads in at #33...


The other entry at #38 are newcomers American Authors with "The Best Days Of My Life"..


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Hot Adult Top-40 format, OneRepublic spend a second week on top with "Counting Stars"...

Flaming in at #36 is British singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding with "Burn". She went to #4 on this chart with "Lights" a couple years back...


The previously shown "Young Girls" by Bruno Mars is the other entry at #37. He took "When I Was Your Man" to #1 from this album...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or Easy-Listening) chart, Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath The Tree" commands for a fourth week.

Dropped in at #26 is Ariana Grande with her cover of the Wham! holiday classic, "Last Christmas". It's the 20-year-old's first song to make this chart...


And right below that is a cappella kings Pentatonix with their take on "Little Drummer Boy" at #27..
