twostepcubchart's Best of 2013: Part Two - #90-#81...

I'm counting down the top 100 songs from my weekly charts of 2013, and this week I'm going through the second set of ten. You can check out part one by clicking here...

#90 - Avicii and Nicky Romero - "I Could Be The One"
from the single "I Could Be The One" (2012)
twostepcubchart peak: #16 (one week)
weeks on the chart: 14

The Swedish and Dutch EDM stars paired up and recruited Swedish singer Noonie Bao for this ethereal rave that came before Tim Bergling's conquering of America later this year. The video is just hilarious as well.

#89 - Tegan & Sara - "Closer"
from the album Heartthrob (2013)
twostepcubchart peak: #10 (one week)
weeks on the chart: 13

Canadian lesbian twin sister act (now there's a niche) break through on pop radio as they embrace the dance-pop on this retro-tinged fist-raiser. I was ecstatic on the success of the pair, it was long overdue.

#88 - Brett Eldredge - "Don't Ya"
from the album Bring You Back (2013)
twostepcubchart peak: #25 (two weeks)
weeks on the chart: 20

2013 was a good year for solo men to break out in the country music market, and Brett followed a moderate hit with the serious "Raymond" with this more-relaxed affair that ended up topping the format chart.

#87 - Drake featuring Majid Jordan - "Hold On, We're Going Home"
from the album Nothing Was The Same (2013)
twostepcubchart peak: #8 (two weeks)
weeks on the chart: 14 (in 2013)

The Canadian rapper/singer auto-croons his way onto adult-pop radio with this sweet serenade accompanied by a long-form video taken out of the shoot-em-up movies. "Take Care, part two" indeed.

#86 - Brantley Gilbert - "More Than Miles"
from the album Halfway To Heaven: Deluxe Edition (2011)
twostepcubchart peak: #30 (two weeks)
weeks in the chart: 18

The country-rock bad boy got personal on this rough-around-the-edges ballad that he sells a lot better than most could.

#85 - Kelly Clarkson - "People Like Us"
from the album Greatest Hits - Chapter One (2012)
twostepcubchart peak: #15 (one week)
weeks on the chart: 16

Yes, this does sound like "Born This Way"-redux, but Kelly's been dipping into the self-empowerment pond for a while now, and it's been her strong suit lately, so I don't mind her running with it.

#84 - New Politics - "Harlem"
from the album A Bad Girl in Harlem (2013)
twostepcubchart peak: #26 (three weeks)
weeks on the chart: 17

The alt-rock band from Copenhagen, Denmark goes to the streets of New York with their first hit. I guess their ESL gives them a pass for the line "shake it like a black girl up in Harlem"...

#83 - Gary Allen - "Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)"
from the album Set You Free (2013)
twostepcubchart peak: #18 (one week)
weeks on the chart: 15

Gary's music has always been a breath of fresh air in the musky smell of fake machismo on country radio, and his weathered voice fits this life lesson of a song. "Go find yourself a new rose don't be afraid of the thorns, cuz we all have thorns" is one of the best lines of the year in any genre.

#82 - Luke Bryan - "Crash My Party"
from the album Crash My Party (2013)
twostepcubchart peak: #22 (two weeks)
weeks on the chart: 22

Yes, he sometimes veers into "a young Jim Nabors" territory (especially when he talks), but at least Luke's likeable and non-confrontational enough to be nice driving music. White bread country, if you will.

#81 - Billy Currington - "Hey Girl"
from the album We Are Tonight (2013)
twostepcubchart peak: #20 (two weeks)
weeks on the chart: 18

Billy had his share of legal trouble this year, stemming from an altercation with a tour-boat captain (who it seems was stalking out Currington's pad with clients), but he rebounded with his lucky seventh #1 country hit.

I'll return tomorrow with a country prodigy, a British slow-burner, Duck Dynasty goes a-stalkin', and more...
