Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14
Today's Song of the Day is by the British progressive rock heroes-turned pop hitmakers Genesis, who took to the road in 1982 resulting in the Three Sides Live album which rendered another top-40 single with "Paperlate". After drummer/singer Phil Collins released a second solo album, Hello, I Must Be Going!, the band went back in the studio with producer Hugh Padgham to record their self-titled twelfth album. The first single was the dark and bleak track "Mama", which did well on rock radio and in the UK (becoming their highest-charting single there), relatively flopped on the pop chart, stalling out at #73. The second release, "That's All", was much more radio-friendly, and brought them back to mainstream radio in the States...
"That's All" became the trio's first single to reach the top-10 of Billboard's Hot 100, while peaking in the top-20 in both Britain and Canada. It was the first big mainstream pop hit for the group, expanding off of Phil's solo success and pushing them further into pop territory.
