Brit Sweep: May 26, 2013...

Hey gang, Sunday is coming to a close, and it's time to check out the songs making their way on to the official sales chart in Britain this week.

After four weeks at #1, Daft Punk give up their title to the new top-seller of the week, and it's the first chart topper for musician and rapper Naughty Boy with "La La La". His last single "Wonder" featuring Emeli Sande reached #10 last year. The new track features vocals by Sam Smith, a Londoner who also sang on Disclosure's hit "Latch"...

The only other debut in the top-40 this week is indie rock band from Manchester the 1975 with "The City" at #30. Their previous single, debut "Chocolate", went to #19 earlier this year...

Entering at #50 is a song by a musician who wrote this piece after undergoing treatment for bone cancer. Zach Sobiech passed on May 20, but his legacy lives on in this absolutely beautiful track with his band A Firm Handshake, "Clouds". (Expect a big debut on the US chart next week)...and if you aren't moved by this, you aren't human....

Bruno Mars comes in on the UK chart this week at #65 with his latest single, "Treasure"...

Last week's UK charts had both the British entry and the winner's song from Denmark from the Eurovision song contest as debut, and this week there's three more songs that made the top-100. First, the contestant from the island nation of Malta in the Mediterranean, Gianluca Bezzina, placed eighth in the final with the song that arrives at #66, "Tomorrow"...

Next from Eurovision,  the Swedish entry (where the competition was being held), "You" by Robin Stjernberg, comes in at #72. It placed 14th in the final. Robin also appeared on his country's version of the Idol franchise, making the runner-up spot in 2011...

Scottish rock group Texas returns to the chart after a seven year break at #73 with "The Conversation". They have placed 13 singles in the UK top-10 from 1989 to 2006..it's my "Brit Pick of the Week"...

The third entry from Eurovision to make the British chart is Norwegian singer Margaret Berger, with her song that made fourth place, "I Feed You My Love"...

Although Daft Punk lose their #1 single status, they claim their first top-selling album in the country, and another track from it, "Lose Yourself To Dance", sells enough on its own to place at #86. Like predecessor "Get Lucky", it features vocals from Pharrell Williams...

The final debut of the week at #90 is from the Baz Luhrmann movie adaptation of the classic novel The Great Gatsby. "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" features singer Fergie with rappers Q-Tip and Goonrock....

That does it for tonight...I'll return tomorrow with another Song of the Day, part two of this week's "album sweep", and the "robbed hit" of the week. Cheers!
