Kraut Sweep: May 28, 2013..

Welcome back to this week's trip to Germany to check out the songs making that country's official top-100 singles chart...

This week's top-seller is the new winner of Germany's version of the Idol franchise, Deutschland sucht den Superstar, ("Germany Seeks The Superstar"), and it's Swiss-born singer Beatrice Egli. Her first "winner's song", "Mein Herz" ("My Heart"), deposes Capital Cities from the top..(you can watch the entire video by clicking here)...

The second-place finisher from the show, Lias Wohlgemuth, also leaps into the top-10 at #9 with "Heartbreaker"...

German singer-songwriter Tim Bendzko returns at #11 with "Am Seidenen Faden" ("Hanging By A Thread"). His first two singles reached the top-5, with "Nur noch kurz die Welt retten" reaching #2 in 2011 (as well as making my own personal chart back then). This is my "German Pick of the Week" this week...

Fresh Torge arrives on the chart at #14 with the novelty song "Superstar" featuring Sandra. It's a parody of the overblown "singing comp" shows' "winning songs"...

Veteran new wave kings Depeche Mode are back at #22 with "Soothe My Soul". The band has topped the chart in Germany twice, with "People Are People" in 1984 and "Dream On" in 2001...

Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull come in right under the top-40 at #43 with their latest, "Live It Up". They topped the chart with their first collabo, "On The Floor", then went to #14 with their second, "Dance Again"...

British synthpop duo Hurts, who sound like they were ripped from the early 80s, enter at #52 with "Blind". Their excellent "Wonderful Life" peaked at #2 in 2010...

Cologne-based R&B group R.I.O. dance in at #54 with "Ready Or Not" featuring U-Jean. They have reached the top-10 here three times, with "Turn This Club Around" going to #3 in 2011...

The German hitmaking pop duo of Rosenstolz split last year, but singer Anna R is band with a new band, Gleis 8 ("Track 8") and a debuting single at #70, "Wer Ich Bin" ("Who I Am")...

Veteran schlager singer Andrea Berg is in at #81 with "Ich Liebe Das Leben" ("I Love Life"), a revived single from 2010...

American pop/rock group OneRepublic enter at #82 with "Counting Stars"...

Another schlager singer, Helene Fischer, was born in Siberia, but now calls Germany her home since age 4, and now comes in at #83 with "Und Morgen Frueh Kuess Ich Dich Wach" ("And I Wake Up And Kiss Tomorrow Morning") from 2006...

German rapper Carlprit, who is originally from the southern African nation of Zimbabwe, arrives at #93 with "Fiesta".

The last entry of the week at #96 is one that I didn't see coming. Youth Kills are a duo of James and Andy Taylor, who are the non-related sons of Duran Duran's Roger and Andy Taylor, respectively. They come in with "Time Is Now". Don't you feel old now?

That's a wrap for this German excursion...I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, 6 of the 60s, and this week's Aussie Sweep. Auf Weidersehen!
