Songoftheday 12/10/19 - And sippin' on 40 ounces thuggin' come come we got the blessed rum, from jumpin' all nights we high hit up the block to where? East 99!

"1st of Tha Month" - Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
from the album E.1999 Eternal (1995)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the day comes from the Cleveland based rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, who had scored their first top-40 pop hit with a song from their EP Creepin On Ah Come Up, "Thuggish Ruggish Bone", in the fall of 1994, then came one notch from landing a second from the EP with "Foe Tha Love Of $" which stopped at #41 on the Hot 100 in the spring of 1995. Their mentor and rapper Eazy-E died though right as that second single was peaking. The group continued on, and with support from their label Ruthless Record (started by Eazy) the foursome recorded their second full-length album E.1999 Eternal. The lead single from the project would be the ode to public welfare, "1st of Tha Month". With members Krayzie Bone, Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, and Layzie Bone taking turns on each verse, their melodic delivery helped the track cross over to a mainstream audience...

"1st of Tha Month" became the group's second top-40 pop hit in September of 1995. The song also climbed to #12 on the R&B chart in Billboard magazine, and peaked at #4 on their Rap Singles chart. Internationally, the single went to #7 in New Zealand, and got to #15 in the UK.
