Songoftheday 4/27/18 - I'm your average ordinary everyday kid, happy to do nothin' In fact that's what I did...
"Let's Get Rocked" - Def Leppard
from the album Adrenalize (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #15 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11
Today's song of the day comes from metal band turned pop hitmakers Def Leppard, whose landmark album Hysteria spun off seven hit singles in America, six of them reaching the top-40 with "Animal", "Hysteria", "Pour Some Sugar On Me", "Armageddon It", "Rocket", and the #1 power-ballad "Love Bites". After touring behind the album, the band set out to record their next album. However, during the difficult early sessions for what would become Adrenalize, guitarist Steve Clark was having issues with alcohol and drug addiction, and on a break in the recording, ended up overdosing on pills and booze in 1991. Since Clark was one of the band's two guitarists, they continued with Phil Collen handling all of the axe work for the set, though by the time the first single from the record was released, they had already recruited Vivian Campbell (most recently of Whitesnake) to join them. That single, "Let's Get Rocked", was another pop-metal concoction written by the band with producer/songwriter "Mutt" Lange, who handled their Hysteria album, although it was Mike Shipley who actually produced it. The music video was just as juvenile as the song itself, with now-way-outdated computer animation dominating the clip...
"Let's Get Rocked" became the first top-40 pop hit from Adrenalize in May of 1992. It was the third song of their career to top Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart (after "Photograph" and "Rock Of Ages" from 1983). Internationally, the single reached the top-ten in the UK (#2, their highest ranking in their home country), Canada (#3), Switzerland (#3), Ireland (#4), Australia (#6), and New Zealand (#7).

Here's the band (without Clark, and before Campbell) promoting the song on Top of the Pops...
With Vivian on board, they played "Let's Get Rocked" along with "Animal" at the Freddie Mercury Memorial concert in 1992 (forward to 5:00 to get to it)...
And now the following year on their tour...
and lastly, from their Rock In Rio stint in 2017...
Up tomorrow: A judgy Idol star proposes.
