Songoftheday 4/1/18 - I thought I spoke to you last evening I woke up cryin' in my sleep, I dreamed that we were still together but now I'm back out on the street...

"Until Your Love Comes Back Around" - RTZ
from the album Return To Zero (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song comes from the rock band RTZ, who came together when the lead singer from arena-rock giants Boston, Brad Delp, reunited with that band's former guitarist Barry Goudreau. While Boston was on a break following the success of their Third Stage album, Brad and Barry assembled the band, calling themselves RTZ (short for Return To Zero), and released their self-titled debut album in 1991. The first single, "Face The Music", sounded much like their original band, and attracted airplay from rock radio enough to have them climb to #5 on Billboard's format chart, and almost made the top-40 at #49. They followed with "There's Another Side", which climbed to #19 on the rock chart. but missed the pop tally altogether. The group's third release was the power-ballad "Until Your Love Comes Back Around". Written by RTZ's keyboardist Brian Maes (that's a lot of B's), the song became their biggest success...

"Until Your Love Comes Back Around" became RTZ's first and only top-40 pop hit in March of 1992. The single also climbed to #38 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart, and crossed over to #36 on their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") format list. The track did even better in Canada, peaking at #19. A fourth single from the record, "All You've Got", managed to make it to #56 on the pop Hot 100. After a second album was scrapped due to conflicts with their record label, Delp returned to Boston for their Walk On album in 1994. Goudreau released more music from the RTZ sessions as the Lost and Lost and Found albums. They were to reunite again, but Delp sadly ended his life in 2007. Since then, the remainder of the band are part of Ernie and the Automatics.
