Songoftheday 4/8/17 - I write you letters all day and then I throw them away, 'cause I dont know what to say 'cause I've been watching you...
"Notice Me" - Nikki
from the album Nikki (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6
Today's song of the day comes from R&B/pop singer Nikki (Lee), a Japanese-American born in Okinawa and grew up in the States. He released his self-titled debut album in 1989, and a year later, radio noticed his smooth soul single "Notice Me". Written by Nikki with Paul Wilson, the track fit into the "Babyface"-like selections on pop radio quite nicely...
"Notice Me" became Nikki's sole pop hit in July of 1990. The single also climbed up to #11 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. He since had married singer Martika ("Toy Soldiers") who he had collaborated with as "Oppera".
Up tomorrow: Singer/songwriter risks some romance.
