Songoftheday 4/1/17 - This is how it started rather how it all began, you see I was an ugly duckling only half a man...

"Sittin' In The Lap Of Luxury" - Louie Louie
from the album The State I'm In (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #19 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song of the day comes from singer/dancer/DJ Louie Louie (Cordero), who got his break from a cameo in Madonna's "Borderline" video back in 1983. He released his debut album, The State I'm In, in the spring of 1990. The first single from the set was a dance-pop number that took influences from the up and coming new jack swing movement, "Sittin' In The Lap Of Luxury". Written by Cordero with producer Les Pierce, and featuring jazz great Dizzy Gillespie on trumpet, it became his biggest success.

"Sittin' In The Lap Of Luxury" became Louie Louie's sole top-40 pop hit in July of 1990. The song also climbed to #74 on Billboard's R&B chart, while the remixes on the 12" single just missed the top ten at #11 on their Dance Club Play list. His next single, "I Wanna Get Back With You", was co-written by Louie with Philip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire, Danny Sambello (brother of "Maniac" Michael), and the late Marti Sharron (the Pointer Sisters' "Jump", Anita Baker's "No One In The World"). The ballad made it to #69 on the American pop chart.

In 1993, Louie released his sophomore album, Let's Get Started, but while it was ignored in the States, he scored a top-40 hit in Britain with "The Thought Of It" (#34). Leaving Warner Brothers, he's put out a couple indie records since, while setting up a successful career as a showman in Las Vegas.
