Robbed hit of the week 4/10/17 - The Black Crowes' "Jealous Again"...
"Jealous Again" - The Black Crowes
from the album Shake Your Money Maker (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #75
This week's "robbed hit" comes from the rock band The Black Crowes, who came together in the late of the 1980's in the Atlanta suburbs, with brothers Chris and Rich Robinson bringing together the group for their debut album Shake Your Money Maker. Gathering influences from southern rock groups like Lynyrd Skynyrd, blues-rockers like the Rolling Stones, and psychedelic rock like Janis Joplin's Big Brother, the Crowes' first single was the hard guitar crunch of "Jealous Again". Like their state compadres the Georgia Satellites, the Black Crowes were favorites of rock radio from the start...
While "Jealous Again" climbed all the way to #5 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart, the single stopped in the lower quarter of the pop Hot 100 in June of 1990. But unlike a big chunk of the new rock acts from the start of the 1990's, this sound just as fresh and timeless now as it did at that time. And in a year's time, they would finally find a home on mainstream radio and the American Top-40 with their ballad "She Talks To Angels".
