Songoftheday 2/7/17 - I always love a little mystery but now the tensions killing me, no place left for words to hide...

"Whole Wide World" - A'me Lorain
from the albums Starring In...Standing In A Monkey Sea and True Love (Original Soundtrack) (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12

Today's song of the day comes from singer Amy Trujillo, who as A'me Lorain released an album with her brother Freddy and husband Victor as "The Family Affair" in 1989. The first single, "Whole Wide World", was a bouncy dance-pop number in the vein of Paula Abdul, and was featured in the movie True Love starring Annabella Sciorra (who later would win an Emmy for her role in The Sopranos). Written by Abdul's producer, Eliot Wolff, along with Arnie Roman, it filled the space between Abdul's albums on pop radio, and was an entertaining re-write of "Straight Up", including the rolls to the chorus...

"Whole Wide World" became A'me's sole top-40 pop hit, reaching the top ten in April of 1990. The 12" remix also made the top ten on Billboard's Dance Club Play list as well (#9). She followed it up with "Follow My Heartbeat", which was a minor pop hit at #73.
