Songoftheday 5/17/16 - I was taught to never tell a lie, to look you in the eye and tell it like it is...

"Little Liar" - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
from the album Up Your Alley (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #19 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the day comes from rock goddess Joan Jett, who had returned to the top ten on the American pop chart for the first time in six years with "I Hate Myself For Loving You". The second single from her Up Your Alley album, "Little Liar", was written by Jett with "song doctor" Desmond Child, and had more in common with the latter's power-ballad leanings with heavy metal acts than her punk roots (and bears a passing resemblance to Cher's "I Found Someone")...

"Little Liar" became Joan's eighth top-40 pop hit in the U.S. in January of 1989. The song also climbed to #13 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. The single made the top-40 in New Zealand as well.

Up tomorrow: A soul singer is pregnantly grateful.
