Rock Sweep: May 28, 2016...
Round two of this week's 'music sweeps' is up, checking out the songs making their way on to the charts in Billboard magazine. This time I've got the latest on rock radio...
On their main Rock Airplay chart, the Red Hot Chili Peppers leap to #1 in just their second week with "Dark Necessities"...
Australian alternative metal band Sick Puppies bark in at #49 with "Stick To Your Guns". Their high point so far on this list was in 2011 with "Riptide" (#6). This new one also climbs to #13 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Grade: C+

Long Island-based art-rock duo Lewis Del Mar sail in at #50 with "Loud(y)", which is at #30 on the alternative chart. Grade: C+
And now on to the rock radio format charts...
On the harder-edged Mainstream Rock radio panel, Volbeat's "The Devil's Bleeding Crown" reigns for a second week...
Pop-punk vets blink-182 rocket in at #24 with "Bored To Death". The song is already in the top-10 on the Alternative and the main Rock Airplay charts. Grade: B
Another non-capitalized band, twenty-one pilots, take their #1 Alternative rock hit "Ride" to this format at #34. Grade: B+
Chicago nu-metal group Chevelle is back at #40 with "Joyride (Omen)", the first single from their upcoming album The North Corridor. They've been to the top here four times prior, most recently with "Take Out The Gunman" in 2014. Grade: C-
Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, the Strumbellas remain on top for a second week with "Spirits"...
Last week's "Rock Pick", "Burn The Witch" from Radiohead, arrives on this chart at #32. Grade: A-
British singer/songwriter Barns Courtney takes his top-5 Triple-A hit "Fire" to this format at #37. Grade: B
The Holy White Hounds move in at #39 with "Switchblade", which is up to #29 on the Mainstream Rock list. Grade: B-
In 2013, the Texan band Unlikely Candidates made it to #35 here with "Follow My Feet". They return at #40 with "Your Love Could Start A War". Grade: C+
Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, the Lumineers' "Ophelia" holds at #1 for an eleventh week...
The #1 Rock Airplay song, "Dark Necessities" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, finally makes this list at #8. Grade: B
Lake Street Dive claim my "Rock Pick of the Week" with the second single from their excellent Side Pony album, "I Don't Care About You".
