Songoftheday 5/14/16 - You like four letter words when you're ready to, but then you won't 'cos you know that you can...
"Armageddon It" - Def Leppard
from the album Hysteria (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12
Today's song of the day comes from the British pop/metal band Def Leppard, whose Hysteria album had built up steam with a line of singles becoming more popular, from the minor hit "Women" to the top-20 "Animal" to the #10 title track to the song that almost hit the top, "Pour Some Sugar On Me", to finally the one that did, "Love Bites". The sixth single (!) from the album, a first for a heavy metal style album, was "Armageddon It", written by the band with producer Mutt Lange, who would use that "pun title" style to greater effect with his wife Shania Twain in her heyday...
"Armageddon It" became the fourth top-ten pop hit the U.S. for Def Leppard in January of 1989, and so far its been their last. The track also peaked at #3 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. Internationally, "Armageddon It" climbed to #6 in Canada, #2 in New Zealand, #11 in Ireland, and #20 in their native Britain.
