Rock Sweep: May 14, 2016...


Round two of this week's "music sweeps" is up with the latest hits on rock radio as monitored by Billboard magazine...

On their main Rock Airplay chart, the Cold War Kids spend an incredible eighteenth non-consecutive week at #1 with "First"...

After a five-year break from their last studio album, pop-punk vets Blink-182 are back as they rocket in at #15 with "Bored To Death". Grade: B

As Cage The Elephant move up to #26 on the Alternative Rock chart with "Trouble", the second single from their Tell Me I'm Pretty album, the song enters the main rock list at #39. Grade: C+



With the death of Prince a mere fortnight ago, rock radio was helped remembering the multi-genre artist with Soundgarden/Audioslave singer Chris Cornell's cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U", which comes in at #46. Grade: C-


Hard rock band Shinedown move in at #48 with "Asking For It". The song also jumps to #17 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Grade: B


And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the harder-edged Mainstream Rock radio panel, Red Sun Rising are on top for a second week with "Emotionless"...

Pop Evil rush in at #30 with "Take It All", the third single from their Up album. The first, "Footsteps", went to #1 here last year. Grade: C+


Alt-metal band Tremonti, led by former Creed/Alter Bridge axeman Mark Tremonti, enter at #40 with "Dust". Back in 2012 the act went to #28 with "You Waste Your Time". Grade: C+


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, twenty-one pilots hang in at #1 for a sixth week with "Ride", while the aforementioned Blink-182 track comes in at #18...

Korean-American indie-rock band Run River North flow in at #36 with "Run Or Hide". Grade: B


Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, the Lumineers are on top for a ninth week with "Ophelia"...

New Orleans-based rock band the Revivalists take their second single from their Men Against Mountains album, "Wish I Knew You", to #25. Last November they placed "Keep Going" at #29. Grade: B+


White Denim, an indie rock act from Austin, Texas, take my "Rock Pick of the Week" as they enter at #26 with "Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah)". Grade: A-


British folk-rock heroes Mumford & Sons team up with Senegalese musician Baaba Maal at #29 with "There Will Be Time". It's from their upcoming live album filmed in South Africa. Grade: B
