from the album Heartbeat City (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #33 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 5
Today's Song of the Day is from the Boston new wave group the Cars, whose megasmash album Heartbeat City had spun off four top-40 singles in 1984 with "You Might Think", "Magic", "Drive", and "Hello Again". They went for a fifth hit with the spacey ballad "Why Can't I Have You", written by lead singer Ric Ocasek...
"Why Can't I Have You" became the fifth top-40 single from Heartbeat City in March of 1985, while stopping just below the top tier at #11 on Billboard's rock radio chart. Internationally, it only scraped the chart in Canada at #90.
