Today's song of the day comes from British singer Lisa Stansfield, who had conquered both sides of the Atlantic with her lush Soul-II-Soul-esque single "All Around The World" in the spring of 1990. In the UK, where that song topped the charts in November of 1989, "Live Together" was put out as the next single, and it went to #10 there, followed by "What Did I Do To You?", which peaked at #25. Meanwhile, in the States, the second single from her debut solo album Affection would be the laid back soul number, "You Can't Deny It". Written by Lisa with collaborators/producers Ian Devaney and Andy Morris, the song matched the tempo of "All Around The World"...
"You Can't Deny It" became Stanfield's second top-40 pop hit in the U.S. in July of 1990. The song topped Billboard's R&B chart (her second) for a week, while it crossed over to their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart at #26. The 12" remix single spent two weeks at #2 on their Dance Club Play list as well. Internationally, while it wasn't a single in most of the world, the record made it to #14 on the singles chart in Canada, matching its American success...
