Songoftheday 5/7/16 - Hey how did you make it make me go out of my mind? Poisoned arrows burning fever strings in my heart...

"Symptoms Of True Love" - Tracie Spencer
from the album Tracie Spencer (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38
Weeks in the Top-40: 3

Today's song of the day comes from R&B/pop singer Tracie Spencer, who got discovered from her appearance on Star Search (kiddies, think the American Idol and more from the 80s) when she was only eleven years old. Signed for a record deal by Capitol, she released her self-titled debut album in 1988. The first single from the set was an effervescent dance-pop number in the vein of Debbie Gibson, "Symptoms Of True Love", written by Felix Weber and Irmgard Klarmann. It was one of my favorite pop tunes of that winter...

"Symptoms Of True Love" became Tracie's first top-40 pop hit in December of 1988. The single also crossed over to Billboard's R&B chart at #11, and the extended remix made it to #14 on their Dance Club Play list.

Here's the Pete Hammond remix of the track which had me hooked on the song early from the Chicago clubs...

...and lastly, here's Tracie kickin' it live at the Apollo to promote the song...

Up tomorrow: A dance diva is in no hurry.
