Madonna - "Crazy For You"
from the album Vision Quest (Original Soundtrack) (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's Song of the Day is from the "Material Girl" of the 80s, Madonna, whose Like A Virgin album had given her her first #1 single with "Like A Virgin" and a #2 follow-up with "Material Girl". During this time, she also recorded two tracks for the soundtrack to the Matthew Modine movie Vision Quest. One of them, "Crazy For You", was written by Jon Bettis (Michael Jackson's "Human Nature", The Carpenters' "Top Of The World") and Jon Lind (Earth Wind & Fire's "Boogie Wonderland"), and produced by Jellybean Benitez. Madonna had a cameo in the movie as a club singer, and her footage was used in the video for the song...

"Crazy For You" became Madonna's second #1 pop hit in the U.S. in May of 1985, while almost doing the same on the adult-contemporary (or "easy listening") chart as her first ballad hit, and even scraped the R&B chart at #80. Internationally, the single went to the top in Canada and Australia, got to the runner-up spot in the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. It also marked a new direction in her music, allowing older listeners to "get into" her.
