Songoftheday 3/3/13 - If your askin' me to say livin' life without you girl is alright...

George Benson - "Lady Love Me (One More Time)"
from the album In Your Eyes (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #30 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's Song of the Day is by the jazz-soul guitarist and singer George Benson, who started out as a true jazz performer in the 60s, and released his debut album in 1964. After a bunch of albums and a change in style to more of a soulful and vocal realm, but it took until 1975 for George to have his first radio success with "Supership", which became a top-40 hit in the UK.  A year later, he released his classic Breezin' album, which not only netted Benson a bunch of Grammys, but also scored a top-10 pop hit in America with "This Masquerade". He went on to have three more top-10 hits, including his biggest, "Give Me The Night", which went to #4 in 1980.

After a three-year break between studio albums, George released his 1983 album In Your Eyes, and the first single, "Inside Love (So Personal)", was a huge hit on the R&B chart, though missing the top-40 on the pop chart by a smidge. He made up for that with the second release, "Lady Love Me (One More Time)", written by Toto's David Paich and future movie-score king James Newton Howard...

"Lady Love Me" made the top-40 in the US, and was an even bigger hit in Britain, peaking at #11 on the singles chart there.
