Songoftheday 7/22/22 -I've been tellin' my dreams to the scarecrow, about the places that I'd like to see...

"Born To Fly" - Sara Evans
from the album Born To Fly (2000)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #34 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 4

Today's song comes from country singer Sara Evans, who had landed her first top-40 crossover hit on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 chart with the song "No Place That Far" from her second album of the same name in the beginning of 1999.  The following year, Evans returned with the title track and lead single from her third release Born To Fly. Written by the singer with Marcus Hummon and Darrell Scott, and produced by Paul Worley, "Born To Fly" is an uplifting song about a woman with big aspirations with the same cadence as Faith Hill's "This Kiss" put to a more altruistic subject. The music video casts Evans as Dorothy in I guess just enough Wizard Of Oz pastische to not get sued...

"Born To Fly" became Sara's second top-40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in December of 2000. The song also was her second to top Billboard's Country Singles chart for a week. Internationally, the single made it to #7 on the Canadian Country chart before RPM shut down at the end of the year. The Born To Fly album, released in October of that year, rose to #55 on the Billboard 200 sales tally, and was her first top ten set on the Country Albums list, going on to sell over two million copies. Both Sara and the album will return to the series.
