Pop Sweep: October 11, 2014...

Hey peeps, it's time to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making the official singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'm starting on the pop side of things, then later in the day move on to the latest on rock, R&B, country, and dance music...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies from radio airplay of all genres, sales, and internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), Meghan Trainor holds tight at #1 with "All About That Bass"...

Rapper Kendrick Lamar rockets on to the chart at #39 with the first single from his upcoming third album, "i". It immediately becomes his fourth top-40 pop hit as a lead artist; he went to #17 with "Swimming Pools (Drink)" (He did go higher as a featured artist on A$AP Rocky's "F**kin' Problem" which peaked at #8 on the Hot 100). This new one, which samples "Who's That Lady" from the Isley Brothers, clearly seems to be geared for radio play, though the refrain "I Love Myself" could strike a cord to those he dissed when he proclaimed himself "King Of New York"...

Rapper Big Sean returns at #70 with "I Don't Fuck With You" featuring E-40. Perhaps this repetitive diss is directed toward a certain cast member of Glee he was engaged to? He's had six top-40 pop hits as a lead artist (and three more as a featured credit), with his "Dance (A$$)" reaching #10...

The third preview single from country crossover duo Florida Georgia Line's second album, "Anything Goes" (the title track), enters at #76. The current radio hit "Dirt" is back up to #23; it peaked at #11 a couple months ago...
