Album Sweep: November 1, 2014 - Part One...


It's time to start out this week's "album sweep", sampling the records making their first appearance on the official Top 200 Albums sales chart in Billboard magazine. As usual, I've included highlighted links to pick up anything here, along with some of the artists' other major work. Support the talent! Since there are a whopping 33 newbies on the list I'm break this sweep into three parts this week, with the second part tomorrow and the third on Tuesday...

The top-selling album of the week last week is the second effort from country crossover duo Florida Georgia Line, who land their first #1 with Anything Goes selling close to 200,000 copies in its first week. (It's also the third country album in a row to top the albums chart; the first time in four years)...

Veteran Detroit rocker Bob Seger returns at #3 with his seventeenth studio set Ride On. It's his first album of new material in eight years. Back in 1980 with the Silvet Bullet Band he topped the chart with Against The Wind)...


The collaborative folk-rock effort from pop singer Pink with alt-rock musician Dallas Green of City and Colour, recording under the moniker You + Me, lands at #4 with their first project rose ave. It's Alecia (Pink) Moore's sixth time in the top-10, with her last, The Truth About Love, going to #1 in 2012...


The Game is back at #7 with his sixth major-label album Blood Moon: Year Of The Wolf. All six have made the top-ten, with three going to #1; the most recent with The R.E.D. Album in 2011...


 New York rapper Hoodie Allen lands his second top-10 set with his first full-length album People Keep Talking at #8.


After practically giving it away on iTunes with the promotion for the new iPhone, U2's official release of their Songs Of Innocence album comes in at #9. They've been to #1 seven times (the most recent with 2009's No Line On The Horizon), but it's not like you can consider this a "failure" financially if Apple paid them mint already...


The second album to be released in America by British singer/songwriter Jessie J, Sweet Talker, enters at #10. It bests her debut, Who You Are, by a notch.


Broadway star and pop superstar due to her vocal appearance in the best-selling album of 2014, the soundtrack to Frozen, Idina Menzel, returns at #13 with her seasonal offering Holiday Wishes. It's her first time in the top-40 for a solo album...


German indie-folk duo Milky Chance debut at #17 with their first full-length, Sadnecessary....


Andrew McMahon, former leader of rock acts like Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate, sees his first "solo" top-40 album as Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness arrives at #21...


Fourth season finalists on The Voice, the Swon Brothers, enter at #28 with their self-titled debut full-length album. They previously went to #65 with a collection of performances from the show. The winner that season, Danielle Bradbery, had her first album come in at #19, while runner-up Michelle Chamuel is getting her's together for release next year...
