Rock Sweep: March 5, 2016...

Round two of this week's "music sweeps" is up, checking out the latest hits on the Billboard charts, and this time out I've got the newest songs on rock radio...

On their main Rock Airplay chart, Cage The Elephant are locked in at #1 for a third week with "Mess Around"...

Ohio hard rock band Red Sun Rising went to #17 on the "big" rock with their former #1 Mainstream Rock hit "The Otherside". They return at #42 with "Emotionless", which jumps to #12 on the Mainstream list.

Art-metal act the Deftones move up to #19 on the harder-edged Mainstream Rock chart with "Prayers/Triangles", which makes the big rock chart at #46. In 2013 they soared to #13 with "Tempest"...

Adele crosses over to the rock airplay list at #47 with "When We Were Young". Her pop blockbuster hit "Hello" reached #26 on this chart...

Alternative metal band Papa Roach lands at #48 with "Falling Apart". The single is up to #16 on the Mainstream Rock chart. It's the third single from their Face Everything And Rise album; the title track peaked at #21 on this list about a year ago...

Blues-rock newcomers Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats went to #3 on the big rock chart with their breakthrough single "S.O.B.". Now their "Look It Here" reaches #50 here - it's at #12 on the Triple-A list down a notch from its peak at #11. It claims my "Rock Pick of the Week"...

And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the more harder-edged Mainstream Rock radio panel, "State Of My Head" from Shinedown rules for a fifth week...

British alternative rock band Foals cross over to this format at #36 with "Mountain At My Gates", which stands at #3 on the Alternative chart, and #14 on the Triple-A list. They previously went to #29 on this chart with "Inhaler"...

The first single from metalcore group Killswitch Engage's upcoming Incarnate album, "Hate By Design", runs in at #37. Back in 2013 their cover of "Holy Diver" topped out at #12...

Swedish death-metal band Ghost just won the Grammy Award for Metal performance for "Cirice", which went to #4 on this chart. They're back at #39 with "From The Pinnacle To The Pit"...

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, "Mess Around" is on top for a second non-consecutive week...

Another band nominated for two Grammys but coming home empty was Highly Suspect, whose second hit single "Bloodfeather" crosses over to these stations at #39. It's currently at #7 on the Mainstream Rock chart, down from its peak of #5. Their nominated debut single "Lydia" went to #24 here...

While Triple-A stations are promoting Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweat's "Look It Here", this format is being treated to their "I Need Never Get Old", which enters at #40...

Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Leon Bridges remains at #1 for a second week with "Smooth Sailin'", and there are no songs making their debut...

I'll return with the newest hits on R&B radio...
