Today's Song of the Day comes from the Purple One himself, whose Sign O' The Times album had already scored a pair of top-10 pop hits with the title track as well as his duet with Sheena Easton, "U Got The Look". The fourth single from the project was the jangle-rock leanings of "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man", which reminds of his gift to the Bangles, "Manic Monday", only a bit more in their style...
"I Could Never Take The Place..." became Prince's third top-10 pop hit from Sign Of The Times in February of 1988. Internationally, the single made the top-10 in Ireland, and top-40 in the UK, Canada, and the Netherlands.
The B-side of the regular and 12" single, "Hot Thing", was a hit in its own right, reaching #67 on the Hot 100, #14 on Billboard's R&B chart, and #4 on their Dance Club Play list...
