Songoftheday 7/23/15 - The way you hold me my heart is stirred, you can control me without a word...

"Hypnotize Me" - Wang Chung
from the album Mosaic (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #36 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2

Today's SOTD comes from the British new wave act Wang Chung, who after paring themselves to a duo and going pure-pop, and scoring two top-10 pop hits in America with "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" and "Let's Go". The third single from the album was also used for the soundtrack to the Dennis Quaid sci-fi-lite film Innerspace. "Hypnotize Me", written by the Wang Chung duo of Jack Hues and Nick Feldman and produced by pop giant Peter Wolf (not the J. Geils singer), the track was remixed for the single/movie release...

"Hypnotize Me" reached the American pop top-40 in July of 1987, while missing that mark at #46 in Canada, and not even reaching the chart in their native Britain.  The song would be their last in the US Top-40. Their next album, The Warmer Side Of Cool, got a cooler reception, with single "Praying To A New God" stopping at #63 on the pop chart and top-30 on the Mainstream and Modern rock charts. They split soon thereafter to work on various projects, reuniting for a couple new tracks for a greatest hits set in 1997. One of those, "Space Junk", would go on to be heard by millions on the first episode of The Walking Dead. They've since released a couple of indie albums.

Up tomorrow: Some sports guys reflect on your absence.
