Pop Sweep: July 11, 2015...

I'm ready to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making their way on to the various music charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start off on the pop side of things, then later in the day roll out the latest in rock, R&B, country, and dance music. And away we goooo...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of internet streaming (like Spotify and YouTube), sales (like AmazonMP3 and iTunes), and radio airplay from all formats, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth spend an eleventh non-consecutive week at #1 with "See You Again". It's one week away from tying the record for longest stay at the top for a rap song...

Rocketing in all the way up at #9 is former Disney princess Selena Gomez with her much more adult offering "Good For You" featuring rapper A$AP Rocky. It's the third top-10 hit for Selena; she peaked at #6  with both "Come and Get It" and "The Heart Wants What It Wants",  and the second for Rocky - he went to #8 with "F**kin' Problems"...

Janet Jackson (now billed as just Janet) returns at #67 with her new track "No Sleeep" (spelling intentional). In her career she's topped the Hot 100 ten times, most recently with "All For You" in 2001...

Pop-rapper Flo Rida jumps in at #74 with "I Don't Like It, I Love It" featuring Robin Thicke and Verdine White (the latter from Earth Wind and Fire), my "Pop Pick of the Week". It's the follow-up to "G.F.D.R.", which peaked at #8 earlier this year...

Philly rapper Meek Mill is back at #81 with his fourth pop hit as a lead artist, "All Eyes On You", featuring his girlfriend Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown. In 2012 his controversial "Amen" went to #57...

Alt-soul singer Janelle Monae moves in at #93 with "Yoga" with Jidenna. She topped the Hot 100 as a featured singer on fun.'s "We Are Young" in 2011, but this is her first pop hit as a lead artist. Also, Jidenna's own "Classic Man" leaps into the top-40 at #34...

Country singer Jake Owen arrives at #96 with "Real Life". He's reached the top-40 here twice, with "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" hitting #21 in 2011...

The fifth single from Sam Smith's incredible In The Lonely Hour album, "Like I Can", enters at #99. Three of them have made the top-10, with "Stay With Me" going all the way to #2...

Rapper Young Thug comes in at #100 with "Check". He previously climbed to #47 with his top-20 R&B hit "Stoner"...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" holds on top for a second week, while the aforementioned Selena Gomez track jumps in at #21...

Kaya Stewart makes her debut at #34 with "In Love With A Boy". She's the daughter of David Stewart of the Eurythmics (no, her mom is not Annie Lennox nor Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama, two of his three wives)...

"Hipster-soul" singer Jidenna drops in at #39 with "Classic Man" featuring Roman GianArthur...

Rapper Silento's viral dance novelty "Watch Me" (this decade's "Land of 1000 Dances") sneaks onto the pop radio list at #40...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Walk The Moon return to #1 for a seventh non-consecutive week with "Shut Up And Dance"...

Charlie Puth, whose guesting role on Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again" puts him at #4 on this chart, nabs the sole debut at #37 with "Marvin Gaye" featuring Meghan Trainor, whose own "Dear Future Husband" falls to #23 after peaking at #13...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, Taylor Swift claims her third chart-topper with "Style", while Sam Smith's "Like I Can" arrives at #26...

Matchbox twenty lead singer Rob Thomas is in at #29 with "Trust You". He topped this chart back in 2006 with "Lonely No More"...

That's all for the start of today's musical journey...I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest in rock radio...
