Robbed Hit Of the Week 3/10/14 - The Pointer Sisters' "Baby Come and Get It"...
The Pointer Sisters - "Baby Come And Get It"
from the album Break Out (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #44
This week's "robbed hit" comes from the multi-platinum Break Out album from the Pointer Sisters, which had already produced four top-10 pop hits with "Automatic", "Jump (For My Love)", "The Neutron Dance", and the re-issue of their 1982 hit "I'm So Excited". Since they were on a roll, they released yet another single, the midtempo sexual come-on of "Baby Come And Get It"...
"Baby Come And Get It" failed to match the success of the quartet of big hits from Break Out, but it did manage to come close to the top-40 on the pop chart in April of 1985 (just like the first single, "I Need You", did back in 1983). It did much better on the dancefloor, peaking on #8 on the club play chart in Billboard magazine, and scaled to #24 on the R&B genre list in the magazine. Internationally, the single did hit the top-40 down in Australia, while nicking the Canadian (#45) and British (#76) singles charts as well. It would be the final single pulled from the album.
