Songoftheday - when you look into his eyes, it comes to you as no surprise...

Loverboy - "When It's Over"
from the album Get Lucky (1981)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (two weeks)
weeks in the top-40: 6

Without Loverboy, there would be no Nickelback.

Mike Reno and Loverboy were Canada's answer to the arena rock groups popping up in the early 80's. With tight sleeveless shirts, (faux?) leather pants and five mullets ready, the band tapped into the Moosehead market and touring behind bands like Kiss and Journey, their first album gave them their first top-40 hit, "Turn Me Loose".

"When It's Over" came from Loverboy's second LP, Get Lucky, and surprisingly the single charted higher than the first, "Working For The Weekend", which has gone to become the group's most well-known song.

Get Lucky would be the first of their two top-10 albums in the US, and is their biggest seller, shifting more than 4 million copies. The band would go on to have six more top-40 records, plus lead singer Mike Reno would have a top-10 hit from the movie Footloose, "Almost Paradise", that would be bigger than any of his hits with his group.

Up tomorrow: A southern rock band named after weaponry has their biggest hit.
