Today's song of the day is the theme song to one of the early 80's most popular television shows, Magnum, P.I.. Starring hot-as-hell Tom Selleck, the Hawaiian detective show lasted eight seasons from 1980 through 1988. The yacht-rock theme song was produced by composer Mike Post, who previously scored top-10 singles with the themes from the Rockford Files and Hill Street Blues. Post also produced a third hit TV theme, Joey Scarbury's "Theme From American Hero (Believe It Or Not)" as well as co-produced Dolly Parton's "9 to 5". The guitar and piano-driven track was his last appearance on the pop charts.

We'll have a wait a few year for another TV theme to hit the radio, and that one would be a #1 record (can you guess which one?)
