Songoftheday 4/27/16 - Well if you wanna see other guys, baby I could let it slide...

"Finish What Ya Started" - Van Halen
from the album OU812 (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 10

Today's song of the day comes from the hard rock band Van Halen, whose second album with new lead singer/guitarist Sammy Hagar, OU812, had scored a #1 rock hit with "Black And Blue" as well as a top-5 pop follow-up with the song "When It's Love". However, accusations of the group, known best for Eddie Van Halen's guitar work, "softening" their sound for pop hits and straying away from good old rock and roll, still bubbled around. Hence, it was a smart move for their third release from OU812 to bring out a track that featured no synthesizers at all, but rather good old rhythm and plucked guitar. "Finish What Ya Started", a rather meek plea to a lover to get them off despite knowing they fool around, was a nice slice of southern groove rock written primarily by Sammy and Eddie...

"Finish What Ya Started" became the third top-40 pop hit from OU812 in America in December of 1988. The song also climbed up to #2 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart.
