Rock Sweep: April 23, 2016...


Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up, checking out some of the songs making their way on to the music charts in Billboard magazine, and this time up I've got the latest hits on rock radio...

On their main Rock Airplay chart, Cold War Kids stand firm at #1 for a fifteenth non-consecutive week at #1 with "First"...

Norwegian synthpop singer AURORA shines in at #40 with "Conqueror". The song also moves up two spots on the Alternative chart in its second week. C+

As Cheap Trick's "When I Wake Up Tomorrow" skips a step up the Mainstream Rock list to #29, it enters the all-inclusive rock chart at #44. B



Danish heavy metal old-schoolers Volbeat return at #47 with "The Devil's Bleeding Crown". It's the first single from their upcoming Seal The Deal & Let's Boogie album. B+


 The Silversun Pickups drive in at #48 with "Circadian Rhythms (Last Dance)" at #48. The track is up at #25 on the Alternative chart. B-


And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the harder-edged Mainstream Rock radio panel, Disturbed's cover of "The Sound Of Silence" remains on top for a sixth week, while the aforementioned "The Devil's Bleeding Crown" from Volbeat vaults in at #23...

Australian alternative metal band Sick Puppies return at #39 with "Stick To Your Guns". It's from their next album Fury. So far they have reached #2 twice on this chart, with "You're Going Down" in 2009 and again in 2013 with "There's No Going Back". C+


Avatar, a "groove metal" hardcore group from Sweden, flies in at #40 with "The Eagle Has Landed". C


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, twenty-one pilots stick around at #1 for a third week with "Ride"...

Indie-tronica act BISHOP ascends to #34 with "River", matching the rank it has on the main Rock Airplay list. C+


San Franciscan rockers Finish Ticket arrive at #38 with "Color". B-


The second single from alt-rock gods Weezer's "White Album", "King of the World", claims my "Rock Pick of the Week" at #39. It follows "Thank God For Girls", which peaked at #11. A-


Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, "Ophelia" from the Lumineers reigns for a sixth week...

Blues-rock veteran Ben Harper and his Innocent Criminals break in at #23 with "Shine". B+


Another blues-rock act, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, see their third hit on this format with "I Need Never Get Old" at #25. Their last, "Look It Here", was in the top ten two weeks ago. It's on the main airplay chart at #35. A


Tom Petty's Mudcrutch, who comprised his pre-Heartbreakers band, are back at #26 with "Trailer". B-


Modern rock act Fitz & The Tantrums dance in at #27 with "HandClap". The song is up at #16 on the Alternative list. B


The final newbie of the week at #30 is Scottish indie-rock band Frightened Rabbit with "Get Out". B-
