Songoftheday 10/9/15 - You're a polished diamond now you're feeling kinda rough, yes I know how long you've been searching for the perfect touch...
"There's The Girl" - Heart
from the album Bad Animals (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #12 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11
Today's Song of the Day comes from the rock band Heart, whose second album after their successful transformation to a mainstream hitmaking machine, Bad Animals, had spun off yet another #1 hit with "Alone" along with a top-10 follow-up in "Who Will You Run To". Like their previous eponymous album, the third release from the set would feature lead vocals from sister Nancy Wilson, whose "These Dreams" became their first #1 pop hit back in 1985. The new track, "There's The Girl", written by Nancy with 'song doctor' Holly Knight, was more upbeat and in the vein of the band's recent hits "Never" and "Who Will You Run To". In fact, Ann got the "Carnie Wilson" treatment in the video, somehow being hidden by set designs and tubes...
"There's The Girl" became Heart's third hit from Bad Animals, reaching the top-20 on the American pop chart in January of 1988. The song also climbed to #16 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the track reached the top-40 in Britain (#34) and Canada (#31).
