Songoftheday 10/2/15 - No one ever told a heart could ache as bad as mine, boy gotta tell ya I thought that it would take more time...

"I Do You" - The Jets
from the album Magic (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #20 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's song of the day comes from the Samoan-American family act from Minnesota, the Jets, who had scored their third top-10 pop hit in America in the summer of 1987 with "Cross My Broken Heart". That single, originally appearing on the soundtrack to the second Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack, eventually found a place on their second album Magic. The second single from the set was the equally bouncy "I Do You", written by dance-pop biggie Stephen Bray (Madonna, the Breakfast Club) with Linda Mallah. With lead vocals from sister Elizabeth, it was also their first without brother Eugene, who left to form the duo Boys Club...

"I Do You" climbed into the pop top 20 in America in December of 1987, while also making that level at #19 on Billboard's R&B chart. The single was also a minor hit in Canada (#68).

Up tomorrow: A Fab guy is unwavering.
