Songoftheday 4/29/14 - I got my first real six-string bought it at the five and dime...

Bryan Adams - "Summer Of '69"
from the album Reckless (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #5 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12

Today's Song of the Day is by Canadian mainstream rock star Bryan Adams, whose 1984 juggernaut Reckless was in full swing, already claiming his first #1 record with the ballad "Heaven", along with top-10 pop hit "Run To You" and top-20 follow-up "Somebody". For the fourth release from the album, "Summer Of '69" is a nostalgic-style rocker about the changes in people as they grow older, though oddly, Bryan himself would only be nine years old in the summer of 1969...

"Summer Of '69" became Bryan's fourth top-10 single in August of 1985, while surprisingly only making it to a modest #40 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the record went top-10 in the Belgium, Norway, New Zealand, and the Netherlands (the latter not until 1990), while in England it stopped right under the top-40 at #42. In Bryan's native Canada similarly the single stalled at #11.

In 2007, German trance act Topmodelz had a European club hit with a cover of the song...

In last season's X Factor UK, finalist Sam Callahan performed "Summer of '69", looking so adorbs (if technically wanting) in doing so...

...and finally some Bryan...first on tour in 1993...

...next on his Unplugged MTV appearance...
