Songoftheday 4/27/14 - I'm not easy to live with I know that it's true, You're no picnic baby, that's one of the things I loved about you...

Don Henley - "Not Enough Love In The World"
from the album Bulding The Perfect Beast (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #34 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 5

Today' Song of the Day is by singer/drummer/songwriter Don Henley, whose second solo album after the first break-up of the Eagles, Building The Perfect Beast, had scored two top-10 hits with "The Boys Of Summer" and "All She Wants To Do Is Dance". For the third single, Don released the midtempo reflective shuffler of "Not Enough Love In The World", which may or may not been about Stevie Nicks, and written with his guitarist Danny Kortchmar and Tom Petty/Heartbreakers keyboard man Benmont Tench.

The line that makes my heading is one of my favorites of the decade...

"Not Enough..." became Don's fourth top-40 pop single in the U.S. in July of 1985, while also reaching #6 on the adult contemporary and #17 on the Mainstream rock radio charts in Billboard magazine. In Canada, it was also a minor hit at #63.

It actually remains my favorite and most "real" of the singles from the album. Just a direct and thoughtful reflection on past love.

Ten years later, Cher covered "Not Enough Love In The World" for her It's A Man's World album, and released in Britain it became a top-40 hit at #31 in 1996...

Up tomorrow: a former aspiring gospel single goes to the bedroom for a big big nostalgic evening soul hit.
