Kool & The Gang - "Fresh"
from the album Emergency (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11

Today's Song of the Day is from the funk/disco/pop group from Jersey City, Kool & The Gang, whose eighteenth studio album Emergency had brought them back to the top-10 on the pop chart with "Misled" at the beginning of 1985. For its follow-up the band released "Fresh", another midtempo dance jam copping on the "street" definition of the word (aka "exciting") to describe a hot girl...

"Fresh" became the second top-10 pop hit from Emergency in June of 1985, while topping both the dance and R&B charts in Billboard magazine. The record even crossed over to the adult contemporary (or "easy-listening") radio format, peaking at #5 on that list. Internationally, the single almost made the top rank at #11 in the UK, #19 in Ireland, and top-40 in both Germany and the Netherlands...

In 1996, the German eurodance act Beat System had a top-40 single in their country with a reinterpretation of the song, peaking at #32...

British electro-pop act Liberty X also redid the song with Kool and the Gang playing backup, which went as high to #3 in Germany and top-20 in France in 2004...
