Boy Meets Girl - "Oh Girl"
from the album Boy Meets Girl (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 1

Today's Song of the Day is by the songwriting duo of George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, who released their debut album as a music act as Boy Meets Girl in 1985. From that album came their first hit, which would establish the sound that would eventually land them a few career-high hits as both a recording artist and as songwriters for Whitney Houston. "Oh Girl" sported a high-concept/poorly-executed version of Miami Vice (quite like "Smuggler's Blues"). With the sunny-side synths, it's hard to determine on passing glance that this is a break-up song...

"Oh Girl" would become the pair's first top-40 hit in May of 1985. By the time they would release their next album, though, they would score as writers of Whitney Houston's "How Will I Know" and 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)"...

Up tomorrow: a stone gets romantically fortuitous.
