Robbed Hit of the Week 3/3/14 - Go West's "We Close Our Eyes"...

Go West - "We Close Our Eyes"
from the album Go West (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #41

This week's "robbed hit" is from the British dance-pop duo that wasn't Wham!, Go West, who released their self-titled debut album in 1984, right about the time the other pair were at the peak of their career. With a synth-heavy "big" sound, singer Peter Cox and guitarist Richard Drummie's debut album was a joy to listen to, and connected with their native country's audience enough to reward them with a top-10 hit in the UK with their first single "We Close Our Eyes". The video to go with the song was produced by the go-to guys in the biz, Godley and Creme...

While the video got a decent amount of play on MTV, the single stalled at the most frustrating of slots, #41 in April of 1985, though it did go all the way to #5 on the dance club play chart in Billboard. Internationally, the record was a #1 hit down under in New Zealand...

I've got to say this is another one of my favorite "robbed hits" of the 80s, and the entire debut album is top-notch, with four great singles and a great listen front to back.. And singer Peter Cox ain't bad to look at. Just sayin'.

Good grief...that man STILL looks good! I LOVED this song, and the whole debut was awesome. "Call Me" is probably the best song on it IMHO, but I played that cassette start to finish for a long time.
