Songoftheday 9/4/13 - I know just what youre doing you dont want to put the hurt on someone...

Rick Springfield - "Don't Walk Away"
from the album Hard To Hold (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's Song of the Day is by Australian singer/actor/heartthrob Rick Springfield, who had the other rockstar-led movie release of 1984, Hard To Hold, which already has rewarded him with a top-5 pop hit in "Love Somebody". For the follow-up, his drama-tinged "Don't Walk Away" was released, and it was a different sound that what he's gone with before for a single. (I'm putting up a "audio fan clip" first, since the real video isn't on his Vevo channel, and what's on YouTube sounds horrible)...

I really liked "Don't Walk Away" at the go, and was disheartened that it stalled out at #26 on the pop chart. It's power-pop chops were undeniable, but I guess in the fluffy-twee new wave atmosphere, this got somewhat lost. It did manage to make the rock chart as well at #41. He would do a little better with his next single, though...

...here's the crappy copy of the video from the YT. C'mon Rick, you have all your other hits on here!

...and here's Rick with a nice live version from his Beat Of A Live Drum concert, though I'm pretty sure the instrumentation is erm, "enhanced"...

Up tomorrow: Reggie's back with a lisper's nightmare.
