Songoftheday 5/24/12 - You're takin' to much time to make up your mind, either you love me or you don't...

Atlantic Starr - "Circles"
from the album Brilliance (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (two weeks)
weeks in the top-40: 3

Today's Song of the Day is by R&B collective Atlantic Starr. Formed in White Plains under brothers David, Wayne, and Jonathan Lewis, the band moved to L.A. to be signed by Herb Alpert's A&M records. 1982's post-disco funk of "Circles" was their second top-5 R&B hit (after "When Love Calls") and first top-40 success.

The membership of the band would change after this, with lead singer Sharon Bryant leaving for a solo career (and a top-40 hit of her own), while the band would go on to bigger success under lead singer Barbara Weathers with a more pop direction like the #1 "Always".

In 1998 "Circles" would be remade by singer Kimara Lovelace, who took the house-inflected version to the #1 spot on the US dance club chart in Billboard.

Up tomorrow, an obscure 60's R&B song written by a guy who was on Ozzie And Harriet and Gidget becomes a smash hit thanks to a queeny synthpop duo.
