Songoftheday - There ain't no good in our goodbyin', true love takes a lot of tryin'...

Barry Manilow - "Let's Hang On"
from the album If I Should Love Again (1981)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #32 (one week)
weeks in the top-40: 3

Today's Song of the Day is the remake of the classic Four Seasons' song "Let's Hang On" by 70's schmaltz powerhouse Barry Manilow. The song was a top-3 hit in 1965 for the "Jersey Boys" group, and one of their most enduring classics. Barry released it as the third single from 1981's If I Should Love Again album, which ended up being his first studio album to fail to have a top-10 pop hit in the US ("The Old Songs" made #15). However, all three songs made the Adult Contemporary (read "soft rock") top-10, and peaking at #12 "Let's Hang On" was Manilow's biggest hit in England since his debut song, "Mandy" in 1974. The video rather hilariously has him attempting to manhandle a lady at the drive-in, then try to apologize by singing. Yeah. With 4 Barry's in the back...

These days Barry has gone the Rod Stewart route, releasing albums of cover songs that have been quite successful, as his last two have been top-10 albums, and also headlining at Vegas at the Hilton and the Paris Hotels for long stints.

Up Tomorrow: "The Rapper" sings about his lady...
