Today's song of the day is the retro-cool R&B cover of "It's Gonna Take A Miracle by Deniece Williams. The song was originally released by the Royalettes, who just missed the top-40 in 1965 with their version...


Then in the early 70's, legendary songwriter Laura Nyro released a version that was a title song of an album of hers, which bubbled under the chart (at #103) and featured LaBelle on backup...


But it took until 1982 for Deniece Williams, who had a #1 hit with Johnny Mathis on "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" to finally break the song, taking it to the top of the R&B chart for two weeks, as well as the US top 10...


Williams would go on to return to the pop #1 spot a couple years later courtesy of Footloose and "Let's Hear It For The Boy". And the song itself would be redone a dozen years later by the Manhattan Transfer featuring Bette Midler...
