Songoftheday 3/18/18 - Ya got that sensuality and oh I love what ya do when ya do what ya do, you got me pumped In the groove when ya move...
"Vibeology" - Paula Abdul
from the album Spellbound (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #16 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 7
Today's song of the day comes from dance-pop singer Paula Abdul, whose sophomore album Spellbound had already granted her three big hits with the top ten "Blowing Kisses In The Wind" and two #1 singles in "Promise Of A New Day" and "Rush Rush". The fourth release from the record would be the funky dance jam "Vibeology". Written by her production helpers Peter Lord, V Jeffrey Smith, and Sandra St. Victor of The Stand, the single already sounded like a remixed track when it was sent to radio, with its house-music bassline and shallow lyrics...
While Vibeology became Abdul's ninth top-40 pop hit in February of 1992, it broke her string of top ten singles going back to her breakthrough "Straight Up". The remixes on the 12" single helped it rise to #17 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart, the only song from Spellbound to do so. Internationally, the record reached the top-40 in the UK (#19), Canada (#19), the Netherlands (#20), Ireland (#29), Belgium (#30), and Switzerland (#31). In Germany, it just missed that level at #46.
