Songoftheday 3/20/18 - Don't wait for me 'cause I won't be there not this time...

"Too Blind To See It" - Kym Sims
from the album Too Blind To See It (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 1

Today's song of the day comes from dance music singer/songwriter Kym Sims, who hails from Chicago, the capital of house music, and with the help of producer and remixer Steve "Silk" Hurley, with whom she co-wrote CeCe Peniston's "Keep On Walkin'", released her own debut album in 1992. The title track "Too Blind To See It", which came out the previous year, became a huge hit in the clubs before reaching the top ten in the UK and then conquering the American top-40, if only for a week...

"Too Blind To See It" became Kym's first and only top-40 pop hit in the U.S. in February of 1992. The single reached #5 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart as well. Internationally, the record hit #5 in the UK, and made the top-40 in Belgium (#14), Australia (#16), Ireland (#20), Sweden (#21), and the Netherlands (#28).

Kym's follow-up single, "Take My Advice", which used the same groove, slipped on to the American pop chart at #86, and also hit #5 on the Dance Club Play chart while going to #13 in the UK. In Britain, a third offering from the album, "A Little Bit More", peaked at #30. All three of these songs remain house music classics and the album is still an amazing listen.

In 1995, Kym returned with the single "I Must Be Free", which climbed to #6 on Billboards Dance Club Play chart and #76 in Britain. That was followed by "We Gotta Love", which peaked at #9 and was a minor hit in the UK at #58. But a second album never materialized, and besides a top-20 club hit "Keep On Groovin'" recorded under the name One Vision, she faded from the clubs until 2017, when she returned to the top ten at #6 on Billboard's Dance Club Play list with "Turn It Up".
