Songoftheday 3/4/18 - You are the one you're all I've been thinking about, And I'd give it all away if only you were here beside me...
"I've Got A Lot To Learn About Love" - The Storm
from the album The Storm (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #26 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6
Today's song of the day comes from the rock group The Storm, which came together in the early 1990s when three former members of arena rock gods Journey (keyboardist/singer Greg Rolie and the recently fired drummer Steve Smith and bass player Ross Valory) hooked up with Kevin Chalfont, who sang for the band 707 which had a decent rock radio hit in 1982 with "Megaforce", which peaked at #12 (and #64 on the pop Hot 100). With guitarist Josh Ramos, who would eventually fill Journey's axe-man Neal Schon's role in the band Hardline, the newly-christened Storm released their self-titled debut album in 1991. The first single, "I've Got A Lot To Learn About Love", sounded uncannily like Raised On Radio-era Journey, with Chalfont doing a respectable job of sounding like Steve Perry on this tune written by himself, Rolie, and Bob Marlette....
"I've Got A Lot To Learn About Love" became the Storm's sole pop hit, reaching the top-40 in February of 1992. The single climbed all the way to #6 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. Their follow-up single, "Show Me The Way", made it to #22 on that same rock radio list. The band toured opening for such rock acts as Bryan Adams, but by the time their sophomore effort Eye of the Storm was recorded, their label Interscope had forgone arena rock for gangsta rap, leaving the Storm to release the set independently in 1996. The various members split and went their separate ways (yeah, I went there) with Valory and Smith returning to Journey.
