Songoftheday 12/3/17 - Eagle's calling and he's calling your name, tides are turning bringing winds of change...

"The Promise Of A New Day" - Paula Abdul
from the album Spellbound (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's song of the day comes from dance-pop singer Paula Abdul, whose second album Spellbound had matured her sound and scored her the biggest hit of her career, the five-week #1 "Rush Rush", in the summer of 1991. The second release from the record was the uptempo adult-pop song "The Promise Of A New Day". Written by producers Peter Lord and V Jeffery Smith of the alt-soul group the Family Stand, along with singer Sandra St. Vincent and Paula herself, the song was most memorable from its music video, which attempted to compensate for Paula's short and thick stature by stretching out the frame, which caused a weird result...

"The Promise Of A New Day" became Paula's sixth and so far final #1 pop hit in the U.S. in September of 1991. The song also climbed to #26 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the single made it to #2 in Canada, and reached the top-40 in New Zealand (#26), Australia (#31), Sweden (#37), and the Netherlands (#39), and was a minor hit in the UK at #52.
